Loving God is more than mere lip service. God doesn't want your human emotional love. He is looking for agapeo, which requires a firm commitment to Him. However, to love in this manner requires daily dying to self. When you lose your "self," the life of God can flow freely through you.
A. You must put God's will and desire above your own.
1. Jesus and the Apostle Paul constantly placed God's will and desire above their own.
2. "Self" is wrapped up in emotions, desires and thoughts that oppose the Word.
3. God wants your emotions, desires and thoughts to be toward Him and others.
4. The anointing is for service.
a. If you are not serving anyone, then you don't need the anointing.
b. You only benefit from the anointing of others, not your own.
c. The gifts of the spirit are given for the profit of all men, not just for your own.
5. Is Jesus merely in your life, or is He your life?
Make a decision to set "self" aside (2 Corinthians 4:10-11).
1. Too much focus on self will hinder the manifestation of agape love in your life.
2. Jesus didn't yield to temptation when Satan came to Him and tested Him; He chose to disregard self and demonstrate His love for the Father (Matthew 4:1-11).
a. Temptation is pressure applied to your flesh.
b. You can only be tempted to do something that you are capable of doing.
c. Jesus could easily have performed every one of Satan's requests, but He chose the will of God over His own happiness.
